Fourth grade is now in session.
Okay: a high desert means it is located between 2,000 and 4,000 feet of altitude. Some call them "cold deserts" but it sounds so heartless and that's probably why most people just say high desert. The idea of a high desert captures my imagination, and I'm really looking forward to feeling a connection to a different landscape.
Also, I like thinking about the mighty Colorado River, which, at 1,440 miles, is one of the best-known rivers anywhere. Did you know it goes through or along nine national parks, including Arches National Park, and more water is exported from it than any other river in the U.S?
We will ride in the area of the Colorado River all days of our ride. I think, but I can't tell for sure, that we may have a great view of the river--one of those grand high up and looking down views--as we make our way through Dead Horse. We will earn it, and if you need convincing, see exhibit A on this page.
Again that incremental hill blows me away to think about. Running on Columns Drive was enough for me, Making it up something like that for MILES I cannot wrap my head around. Cannot wait to hear how it goes!
ReplyDeleteMolly and I went to Dead Horse Point, and its story plus the views and endless thrilling structures on the way made a long lasting visual imprint. There was snow that January - hope it’s warmer for you!
ReplyDeleteHigh desert does sound more appealing than cold desert, but definitely not appealing enough for me to even consider this trip! Good luck with the rides, hope all goes well!
