Skinny Tires on the Horizon

The countdown is at hand, we have a FedEx receipt to prove that our beloved bikes are en route to our Moab Hotel. The bikes should get there the same day we do, March 9. We'll have two days before rolling out as first timers of the 2022 Skinny Tires Festival. Beth Logan, ST ride director, has been so helpful as she's answered several of my phone calls and emails during the past four months that we've been getting ready for the ride. She'll get her payoff soon: a treat bag of Georgia edibles and no, not that kind. I'm thinking Georgia Grinders Peanut Butter and Chick-fil-A sauce and maybe a bag of pecans if I can find some labeled as Georgia grown. I'm looking for the peanut butter but so far can only find this almond butter, which is very good, btw.

The Skinny Tire people sent us an email a few months ago asking if we had any special dietary needs or requests. They were planning our lunch menus and snack offerings and just wanted to know. Isn't that so nice?

If this ride is as good as I think it will be, I'll want to go back next year and am hoping our young adult children will join us.

    Pierson Farms is a local GA producer and they send all over the place. A friend recommended them years ago to me. I LOVE all things Peanuts, peanut butter, almond butter, peanut sauce, peanut oil. If I ever was allergic, I would have to find shots to take to keep that love alive. LOL!

Our biking group, 11 riders in all, included seven doctors. By day three of the ride, one of them said to Mackenzie: "Think we can get your Mom to pee in a cup?" Haha. 😂😜😂 That question made our whole group laugh a lot. Also, I take it as a compliment to my cycling prowess, such as it is, gained from my many careful and hearty miles through heat 😡and cold 😰 and up and down with my Riverside Riders peeps. Thanks, everybody!  By now, I've told two or three people the pee-in-a-cup comment, and they've universally responded by laughing quite a lot, so I just had to add it here for posterity and for when I'm an old lady rereading these posts. Day 2- Ticonderoga, Friends Lake, NY.

Monday morning. Above is the Swift House Inn, our hotel for Sunday night. As for last night, the whole group had dinner at Two Brothers Tavern and  Kenz and I took a nice stroll all through Middlebury College campus.  The table shared poutine because we are so near the Canadians. And because of french fries. This chart for today’s ride must be out of proportion because it looks too steep for such a laid back ride as this.

"How was the weather?" Getting ready for the number one inquiry.

The weather at our destination, Moab, Utah, will be different from here at home (Atlanta), but not monumentally so. Ride days are forecasted to be a high of 55 or 60, with lows of 25 to 33. The climate is important to the traveler, if this research from the International Journal of Tourism Research is correct.   “How was the weather?” is a frequently asked question when people exchange their holiday experiences. Recent results from the annual German travel analysis , a representative survey among 7500 Germans (FUR,  2019 ), report that the most frequently listed positive memory of the last main holiday trip was neither landscape (70%), nor regional food and beverage (68%), nor the atmosphere (65%). It was good weather (73%). Also, extreme weather remains a part of traveler's memories: a study of Gössling, Abegg, and Steiger ( 2016 ) showed that people still report weather related events that took place while on holiday even after 10 years.
